Greensky Bluegrass Open Tour In Indianapolis With Billy Strings

Words and photos by Chris Bryce

On Thursday January 18th Greensky Bluegrass opened up their winter tour in Indianapolis, IN at the Old National Centre. Billy Strings opened up the show with his extremely energetic style of bluegrass. After seeing his performance I don’t think it’ll be too long before he’s headlong in massive tours and selling out theaters all over the country.

Greensky Bluegrass remains one of my favorite bands to see live, for many reasons. They’re top notch musicians and songwriters, their set list contents are always filled with great covers that they’ve added the bluegrass music touch to and crowd pleasing originals, they have a way of interacting with the audience that I’ve only seen with a couple other bands, and there’s one hell of a light show.

Greensky Bluegrass opened the show with “Take Cover”, from there they played a wide assortment of originals with a couple of covers thrown in like “Foxy Lady” by Jimi Hendrix and Prince’s “When Doves Cry”.
