The Pixies Rock Pittsburgh Under The October Sky
Words and photos by Pat Bruener
The remaining dates on The Pixies nationwide tour are mostly sold out, and for good reason. Earlier last week in Pittsburgh the alt/indie rockers – most famous for their hits “Where Is My Mind”, “Hey”, and “Here Comes Your Man” – showed they are made of more than just hits. The high energy performance looped in and out of genres form surf rock to indie pop to psychedelia, producing a massive 30+ song set list to a nearly sold out crowd at Stage AE’s outdoor venue.
Even in October, the outdoor space at Stage AE is incredible; the harvest moon shone above the stage along with the Pittsburgh skyline just off in the distance. The band – Black Francis (rhythm guitar/vocals), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), David Lovering (drums), and Paz Lenchantin (bass) who recently replaced founding bassist Kim Deal. The band is continuing their tour through the Midwest and onto the west coast where they have a good number of shows in Oregon, Washington State, and all through California. Get out and see one of these shows if you can. Beyond the nostalgia of their hits, The Pixies produce a highly energetic and fast paced show that has the potential to impress any music lover.
